The star studded Screen Awards were incepted by Mr. Viveck Goenka (the chairman of The Express Group) in 1994. The awards are unique as they are presented by an appointed jury from film fraternity to the film fraternity. The Star Screen Best Child Artist Award is presented to a child actor in order to acknowledge his/her performance in a film. The award was introduced in 2006 and the inaugural award was bagged by Ayesha Kapoor for the film ‘Black’. Ayesha Kapoor is a sixteen year old Indian actress who played a role of the childhood version of Michelle McNally in the movie ‘Black’. She played the character of a psychologically challenged, physically disabled, traumatized and unstable child, which was far beyond what the manuscript had demanded.
