The Filmfare Awards have indeed come a long way since its inception in 1954. The award ceremonies are now one of the grandest film award ceremonies in India. The best film of 50 years is indeed a special award, as it was presented only once in 2005 to celebrate the 50th filmfare Anniversary. Ramesh Sippy of ‘Sholay’ fame was the proud winner of the award. Though the film failed to win the Best Movie Award, it was acknowledged as the most significant movie of the last fifty years.
