The prestigious National Film Awards were established in 1954 to encourage and honor the films that were directed across India. Since 1973 the prominent award ceremony was administrated by the Indian government’s Directorate of Film Festivals. Each year a national panel is appointed by the government to select the winning entry. Generally the National Film awards are held in New Delhi and the awards are presented by the President of India. The ‘Best Feature Film in Kannada’ award was first introduced in 1954 and was awarded to the movie ‘Bedara Kannappa’ which was directed by H. L. N. Simha and written by G. V. Iyer.
