The Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album has been handed out since 2003. This award was introduced at the 2003 Grammys to nominate and award R&B albums with the contemporary musical style of modern day hip-hop. Before the introduction of this award all R&B albums were eligible only for Grammy Award, Best R&B Album. R&B singer Mary J. Blige is the only artist to have won both the Grammy Award for Best R&B Album and the Grammy Award for Best Contemporary R&B Album. Beyonce’s three wins makes her the most awarded artist in the category.
