The Grammy Awards has been presented annually by the Recording Academy since 1958 and The “Musical Show” field has had just two categories in it since its addition to the list of fields at the Grammys in 1959. Best Musical Show Album and Best Sound Track Album or Recording of Original Cast From a Motion Picture or Television. Currently only one category is awarded in this field; Best Musical Show Album and the nominees have to adhere to one criterion in this field; the recipients of the award include the composer and lyricist along with the album producer for music, 51% of which has not been recorded previously.
