Best Female Country Vocals

The Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance was first handed out to Dottie West in 1965. Up until 1967 from its inception, the award was known as Best Country & Western Vocal Performance – Female. In 1968 it was changed to Best Country & Western Solo Vocal Performance, Female and it was changed again in 1969 to Best Country Vocal Performance, Female, this title stuck on till 1994. In 1995, the Academy changed the title once again to Best Female Country Vocal Performance, which has stuck on till the present day Grammys. The most nominated in the category is country singer Martina McBride with 9 nominations; she never won the award though. Mary Chapin Carpenter is the most honored artist with four wins in the category.
