The Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance has been handed out since 1969. It was introduced with the title Best Contemporary-Pop Performance, Instrumental in 1969. It was awarded as Best Contemporary Instrumental from 1970 to 1971. In 1973 it was known as Best Pop Instrumental Performance by an Instrumental Performer. From 1986 to 1989 it was awarded as Best Pop Instrumental Performance (Orchestra, Group or Soloist). The current title of the award was introduced in 1990.
