The glitzy Screen Awards were established by Mr. Viveck Goenka (the chairman of The Express Group) in 1994. The awards are distinct from other film awards, as they are presented by a selected jury of the film fraternity to the film fraternity. The best actor award was first presented to Sanjay Dutt for the film ‘Lage Raho Munna Bhai’. The film was based on the ideologies of Mahatma Gandhi and hence had a strong impact on the audience in India.
