After its inception in 1944, the HFPA added a lot more categories to the Golden Globe Awards. This was done to make sure that no achievement in the film and television industry went unnoticed. In the 80’s the organization came up with the award for Best Actor - Mini-Series or Television Film. The very first award went to Mickey Rooney in 1981 for his role in Bill. In 1988 there were two recipients for the award; Michael Caine and Stacy Keach were awarded for their roles in Jack the Ripper and Hemingway respectively. The official title of the award has been changed to Best Performance by an Actor in a Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
