Since 1973, Indian government’s Directorate of Film Festivals administers the National Award ceremonies. The National Film Awards are the most prominent and one of the oldest award ceremonies in India. The award ceremony is held in New Delhi every year, where the winners receive awards by the President of India.
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is a national award presented by the Indian government for lifetime contribution to Indian Cinema industry. The awards were first introduced in 1969 (the birth centenary year of Dadasaheb Phalke) and the inaugural award was bagged by Devika Rani from Andhra Pradesh.
