The Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) is the organization that is responsible for creating and conducting the Golden Globe Awards. The HFPA comprises of journalists who cover the film industry in the United States and diffuse news on Hollywood to the rest of the world. They are also responsible for voting and deciding who walks away with the Golden Globes every year. The Best Supporting Actress Award has been handed out every year since the inception of the Golden Globes. In 1970 the award for this category had two recipients, Karen Black and Maureen Stapleton. Both won the award for their roles in Five Easy Pieces and Airport respectively. Since 2005 the award has been officially called ‘Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Motion Picture’.
