The Star Screen Awards are considered as one of the biggest and grandest Indian award shows. The awards were instituted by Mr. Viveck Goenka (the chairman of The Express Group) in 1994. The winners for the awards are chosen by the judges within the Indian film industry itself. Though the awards were incepted in 1994 this award category was not introduced until 1995. The first ‘Best Supporting Actress’ award was presented in 1996 to Mita Vasisht for her film ‘Drohkaal’.
