The Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album has been handed out since 1959. The recipients of the award include the composer and lyricist along with the album producer for music, 51% of which has not been recorded previously. The title of the award has undergone several minor changes over the years. In the year of its introduction the award was known as Best Original Cast Album (Broadway or TV). In 1960 it was awarded as Best Broadway Show Album, the following year it was changed again to Best Show Album (Original Cast). From 1964 to 1973 the award was titled Best Score From an Original Cast Show Album. In 1976 it was changed to Best Cast Show Album, the tile was kept until 1986. In 1987 it was changed once again to Best Musical Cast Show Album before the presently used title was introduced in 1992.
