Filmfare Award can be described as the Indian 'Oscars'. Constituted by Filmfare magazine, in 1953, they honor the members of Bollywood fraternity and provide encouragement to various talents in the motion picture industry. The award is given every year to the outstanding performers in various categories. Initially, there was no award for the category of Best Supporting Actress, in Filmfare. Later on, in 1955, as the performance and importance of the supporting actresses in a film was realized, the award was instituted.
