The Filmfare magazine constituted the Filmfare Awards in the year 1954. The awards were initially called ‘The Clares’ after Clare Mendonca (Filmfare critic). The awards were introduced to honor and encourage the artists for their talent portrayed in films (released the previous year). The film ‘Lamhe’ (directed by Yash Chopra) bagged the highest number of awards for the year. It is considered to be a classic and modern masterpiece among several other fine movies created by Yash Chopra.
