The Indian film industry saw the dawn of Filmfare Awards in the year 1954. The awards were incepted by the famous Filmfare magazine. The readers of the magazine choose the winners for various categories. The awards were introduced to acknowledge talent in the film industry. Filmfare Awards 2003 were sponsored by manikchand, hence the awards were also known as the 48th manikchand filmfare awards. The film ‘Devdas’ bagged the highest number of (nine) awards for the year 2003. The film was based on the Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay novella ‘Devdas’. This is the first color version of the story in bollywood. It was considered one of the most expensive bollywood ever produced in 2002.
